Recently i purchased Canon PowerShot S3-IS. Its a good camera but lacks raw picture format support in it. But now i find a way to get the raw support in my camera.
CHDK Firmware is now available for some Canon P&S digital cameras. This firmware hack supports the following features:
* Shooting in RAW
* Live histogram (RGB, blended, luminance and for each RGB channel)
* Zebra mode (blinking highlights and shadows)
* DOF-calculator
* Battery indicator
* Scripts execution (exposure/focus/… bracketing, intervalometer and more)
* File browser
* Text reader
* Calendar
* Some fun tools and games 
The firmware is available for the following Canon digital camera models:
* A610, Fw: 1.00D (with CHDK version for 1.00E), 1.00E, 1.00F
* A620, Fw: 1.00F ( 1.00E is not compatible. You must upgrade to 1.00F first )
* A630, Fw: 1.00C
* A640, Fw: 1.00B
* A710 IS, Fw: 1.00A
* S2 IS, Fw: 1.00E, 1.00F, 1.00G, 1.00I (with CHDK version for 1.00G)
* S3 IS, Fw: 1.00A
Just go through the CHDK FAQ will will find lot of information regarding this.

Don’t worry it won’t do anything to your original firmware. You have to just copy CHDK firmware to the SD card, step by step configuration details are there in the CHDK faq.
Right now i am experimenting with my camera, now i know what i was missing in those photos.

I just read that if you flip the LCD towards you, we can take self portrait pictures. Can we use the feature only for pictures or for movies also?

Bought a Canon S3 IS awhile back even though it did not have RAW support always wished it had. After a quick google search out of the blue I found this!
So far got it all installed, was pretty easy but im some what techy. Although having trouble working with the RAW images at this point but trying to figure all that out as we speak..
Just wanted to say thanks, works great. Hardest part was fiding a memory card reader for my PC
Luckily my laptop one had it.

I managed to install the update and it seems to work. For Mac users like me there is also a script to install everyhting automatically which is rather good. So thanks for the tip!
